Mean Girls in Ministry: The Spirit Behind the Smile
By MzVVS
They hug you at the altar, smile at you in the pews… but silently hope you fail.
They quote scripture with you, but won’t clap when it’s your turn to lead.
They’re in ministry, but not in unity.
Let’s talk about it.
There’s a hidden epidemic in the Body of Christ—and it’s not adultery or greed. It’s the spirit of jealousy, pride, and insecurity that’s dressed up in designer suits and worship-leading smiles.
The truth is, some of the deepest wounds don’t come from the world, but from within the church. From women who are called, but competitive. Anointed, but aggressive. Gifted, but guarded.
This isn’t about being petty—it’s about being honest.
James 3:16 says,
“For where envy and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.”
We can’t heal what we won’t reveal. And too often, what we label as “personality clashes” are really just unhealed places—places where pride has taken root and insecurity builds altars to self.
Ministry should never become a mirror for our ego. If we’re tearing down sisters just to climb higher, we’ve missed the message of the Gospel.
Because ministry isn’t about platforms, it’s about people.
And it isn’t about competition, it’s about Kingdom.
💎 Here’s a call to self-check:
Am I encouraging, or envying?
Am I praying for her or preying on her weakness?
Am I serving the Kingdom—or protecting my clique?
Let’s be the kind of women who can clap for each other and correct each other in love.
Let’s kill comparison before it kills our sisterhood.
Prayer
Father, heal every wounded heart hidden beneath a smile. Uproot jealousy, pride, and insecurity from within us. Replace competition with compassion and comparison with confidence in You. Remind us that our identity is not in our ministry title, but in You alone. Amen.
