“Don’t Look Back: Lessons from Lot’s Wife”
When we talk about moving forward, we often overlook how heavy the past can feel. Lot’s wife is a warning we don’t like to admit we need. Genesis 19:26 says, “But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
She didn’t just glance—she longed. She looked back at what felt familiar, fun, and free. Maybe she remembered the laughter at the parties, the easy escape in the wine, or the comfort in routines that dulled the pain. Whatever it was, it had a stronghold on her heart.
And isn’t that us sometimes? Trying to follow God but grieving the false freedom we left behind. Struggling to surrender old flames, old friends, or old habits. We want to be healed but still flirt with what hurt us. We want to be new, but nostalgia keeps whispering our name.
But God is saying in this season: “Look to the hills from where your help comes from” (Psalm 121:1). Not to the club. Not to the blunt. Not to the situationship you almost got free from. Forward is calling. Glory is ahead. But we can’t walk into our promise still gazing at the past.
Closing Prayer:
Father, give us the strength to release what You’ve already rescued us from. Help us not to look back with longing, but forward with faith. Detox our desires and redirect our vision to You. May we run toward Your will without hesitation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
